Despite many human rights warning and appeals against cooperating with the NEOM project as it violates human rights relentlessly, the project management regularly announces new partnerships and business deals with major commercial institutions and exhibitions in the world.
On Friday, May 21, 2021, Andrew McEvoy, head of the tourism sector in Neom, announced during the “Arab Travel Market Expo” held in Dubai that the first Neom hotel will be opened at the end of next year, adding that between the year 2023 and 2025, up to 15 hotels per year are expected to be opened, and will increase to 20 and 30 hotels the following year.
McEvoy said that talks with the 5 largest brands of major hotels, such as IHG, Hilton, Accor and others, were made and deals are about to be concluded.
On Thursday, May 20, the official Neom Twitter account announced the sponsorship of the FoodTech 500 project, the first ranking people in the world in the fields of food, technology and sustainability.
This came within the framework of the administration’s announcement that Neom will create the first fully sustainable and renewable food system.
Any project in the world aims at providing service to the human, but it is clear that the value of the human being is not in Neom’s consideration as the project was built on the blood of Al-Huwaitat Tribe of 20,000 people, the killing of their sons, destructions of their homes and displacement of them from their lands and the lands of their ancestors.
This situation is similar to that of the people in Sheikh Jarrah in Palestine. The two peoples are threatened with destroying their history and displacement, for the sake of the wishes of those ruling, and it is very unfortunate that the national forces treat the citizens like Zionists treat Palestinians.
Nevertheless, if it is all about material interest; it is not guaranteed in Neom, which only has few royal palaces and an airport. None of the promises were achieved. No flying cars, robots, smart homes, or huge green spaces.
In fact, instead of Neom being a source of income to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, it became a burden and billions of the sovereign fund money is being spent on this project, while Saudi citizens were living in dire conditions.
All statements of those in charge of NEOM speak about the future without a clear plan.
For example, the head of the tourism sector in the project stated that the expected initial number of visitors next year ranges between 20 and 50 thousand visitors, indicating that Neom targets about 1 million visitors by 2025 and 5 million by 2030, without mentioning the studies on which these expectations were made. It is a city project based on the imaginations and aspirations of the Crown Prince only.
