NEOM: Procrastination Only and No Achievements

Soon four years will be completed since the announcement of the city of NEOM project, but until this moment none of these promises has been made except that it has an airport and a few palaces.

On Twitter, more than 95% of the tweets are simple procrastination of accomplishments promised by those in charge of the project, but without setting specific date or explaining the reasons for this permanent procrastination.

Most of the words used about NEOM are used in the future tense. There is no talk of achievements despite the billions spent by the authorities to maintain this project.

The Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman promised that the city would diversify the kingdom’s sources of the economy and it won’t depend on oil as before.

In fact, NEOM itself has become dependent on oil revenues mainly, and huge amounts of the Kingdom’s Funding was spent on this city, without making any revenue so far.

Earlier this week during a meeting with the journalist Abdullah Al-Mudayfer, MBS justified his insistence on completing these projects by saying that he trying to use all available opportunities to make a success, while others see that he takes reckless steps, which he totally denied as he said, “If I have 10,000 achievable opportunities, we will work on them, and when we achieve them, they will open new horizons.”

This statement is in fact new evidence of his unawareness of the reality of things, as reality confirms that KSA is going through a huge financial crisis and that citizens need all this money that is spent on projects that are not guaranteed.

Unfortunately, those in charge of “NEOM” consider that starting internal projects – before the completion of the main project – is an achievement worth celebrating! So the announcement of  “The Line” project is an achievement for them that supports the SaudiVision2030 and embodies the future of the Kingdom.

The real achievement is for everyone to see tangible successes on the ground, that make strong impacts on the lives of citizens, and to contribute to the prosperity of society and its members.

The real achievement is for the project to become an important factor in achieving other successes, instead of creating new burdens which neither the state nor citizens can tolerate its costs.
