The General Authority for Statistics in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said that the inflation index showed an increase in the consumer price index (inflation rate) compared to June 2020, where the inflation rate for June 2021 was 6.2%, compared to 5.7% in June 2020.

The authority also said that the consumer price index still reflects the increase in value-added tax from 5% to 15%, which began in July of the year 2020.

The General Authority for Statistics in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia disclosed that there has been a significant increase in food and beverages by 8.1%, which made it a major factor in the high rates of inflation, and its negative impact on the Saudi citizens.

The transport prices increased by 22.6%, in addition to the value of taxes added on all goods by 15%, which had an impact on the high rate of inflation.

The authority attributed the increase in transport prices to the increase in vehicle prices by 10.6, and to the increase in operating prices of personal transport equipment by 56.2%, which was also affected by the increase in fuel and lubricant prices by 110.7%.

The authority also indicated an increase in tobacco prices by 12.3%, affected by the increase in cigarette prices by 13.5%.

Analysts considered that the commission's statement is a revelation of the failure of the policies of the Saudi crown prince, who had promised that his policies would bring welfare of the Saudi citizen and provide job opportunities for young people, yet the total opposite happened.
