Qaisumah city is one of the Saudi cities located in the Eastern Province and administratively affiliated to Hafr Al-Batin Governorate. The city originated with the emergence of petroleum in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, more than 70 years ago, when the Tapline was extended. The city has 27,000 residents and has an airport that serves the people of the governorate, and another local airport that serves the governorate and its affiliated centers.
The people of Al-Qaisumah area suffer from long and frequent power cuts in light of the high temperatures in the Kingdom during summer.
With the frequent power outages, the people of the city began to rely on electric generators for their own money, but it spoiled their electrical devices due to their weak electrical power, and they were not suitable for food stores.
The people expressed their constant suffering as a result of the power outage amid lack of care by the municipality in the city and denounced their dependence on electricity of wooden poles until today, which is eroded by the heat of the sun and winter rains, causing power outages and fluctuations during their work, which harms home appliances and lighting.
The people also demanded the Hafar Al-Batin administration and Al-Qaisumah municipality to provide safe ground electricity to their city, to no avail.
Nashi Al-Mutairi, one of the residents of the city, said that the people suffer from power cuts for long hours in summer, which harmed the elderly as they had to break their fast in Ramadan due to high temperatures and causes thirst and makes them weak.
He also pointed out that all the municipality's responses to their complaints consist of temporary repairs to the electricity transformer in the area, with power cuts back in days due to electricity transfer through wooden poles.
Abdul Karim Al-Harbi, a Saudi citizen from Al-Qaisumah, said: We suffer greatly from frequent outages and fluctuations in energy, especially in Al-Faisaliah neighborhood, where most of its residents’s household appliances got damaged. The suffering increased more in the summer of this year due to the sharp rise in temperatures.
The duration of the electricity outage in the city is very long as it may start at ten in the morning until one in the evening, and as a result of this, the elderly, sick, and children suffer greatly as the temperature sometimes rises to more than 47 degrees.
It is worth noting that Al-Qaisumah city recorded the highest temperature in the Kingdom for several days, without anyone responding to their complaint.
The people of the area called on the officials of the Electricity Company, Hafr Al-Batin Governorate, and the municipality to visit the site and change the poles immediately as it has become a serious danger to the people of the area, and their homes, due to weak and fluctuating electric currents.
