Expo is the name of an exhibition held every 5 years in different countries around the world, with the aim of displaying achievements in several fields.
The exhibition lasts for 6 months, during which it attracts millions of visitors in order to learn about the events held inside the exhibition, which are organized once for a period of 6 months. It is the third most important event after the World Cup and the Olympics. It is a very huge economic activity.
History
The first Expo was held in London in 1851, with the aim of strengthening international relations, highlighting the importance of cultural diversity, and its role in enriching technological industries. It was attended by nearly 6 million people, and then its sessions continued to this day, in different countries, such as the US, Canada, China, Japan, Belgium, Australia, and others.
The UAE was chosen at the head of the Arab axis of evil to receive the exhibition, under the name Expo 2020, where the Emirati regime, under the leadership of the de facto leader, Mohammed bin Zayed, who owns a grave record of human rights violations in the Arab and Middle Eastern region, through his blatant interference in the affairs of states as happened in Egypt, through their support for the coup against the will of the Egyptian people, by supporting the generals of the army, and the extermination of political life and democracy there. It did the same in Libya by supporting General Haftar to overthrow the Libyan revolution, and committing massacres throughout the country, then the war on Yemen with the help of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which wiped out life and stability, killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions of Yemenis, and eliminated all aspects of life, and currently inciting against the elected government in Turkey.
Extensive campaigns were adopted by jurists aimed at calling on countries that support peoples’ rights, fight authoritarian regimes, and attempt to end democracy in the country; to boycott the exhibition in Dubai, and expose the authoritarian practices.
In response, the European Union, through a joint resolution, called on all companies sponsoring Expo 2020 Dubai to withdraw their sponsorship, and the European Union urged all member states not to participate in the exhibition.
The decision taken by the European Union was widely welcomed by human rights organizations and human rights activists, especially in light of the violations practiced by the UAE against Emirati dissidents and other detainees inside Emirati prisons.
With the increasing campaigns to boycott the Expo Dubai, the interaction of the European Union also increased, as the resolution called on the European Department of Foreign Affairs to propose the adoption of measures by the European Union against perpetrators of the grave violations committed by the UAE against human rights, and the resolution was passed by an overwhelming majority.
Human rights activists considered the European Union’s interaction a great victory for their campaigns against the bullying of the UAE regime in the region, and its crack on human rights, as this is the first intervention of the European Parliament regarding human rights in the Emirates.
The joy of the Israeli occupation
The newspaper, “Jerusalem Post” affiliated with the Israeli occupation, considered the human rights campaigns against Dubai’s hosting of the Expo to have provoked violent reactions against the policies of the UAE, which enjoys great Israeli support, and extensive joint relations with the occupation.
According to the Israeli newspaper, non-governmental organizations have called on the governments of the world to boycott the exhibition, and they work under the umbrella of the “Freedom Forward” union, headed by activist Sangev Beary.
NEOM and Expo Dubai
Specialists considered that the similarities between NEOM and Expo Dubai are completely identical, as both Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Crown Prince, and the Emirates represented by bin Zayed, are using the NEOM project and the Dubai Expo to cover up the crimes that each of them commits against opponents in their countries, and against the peoples who reject the tyranny of regimes in other countries.
The Executive Director of the European Center for Democracy and Human Rights (ECDHR) Hussein Abdullah said that the “European Parliament’s decision is an important step towards holding the UAE government responsible for its ongoing systematic violations of human rights against its citizens and its complete disregard for international law.”
He also noted that the UAE government has adopted a set of tactics to whitewash and cover up its brutal and bloody human rights record, and one of the main ways for this was the Dubai Expo 2020.”
In a related context, Sanjeev Berry, executive director of Freedom Forward, a non-governmental organization pioneering efforts to boycott the exhibition, said, “The Emirates Dubai Expo is organized by a member of the ruling family who has been accused of rape, and without attention to these violations, there will be no accountability. Without accountability, there will be no justice and no end to the UAE’s human rights violations.
