Saudi Arabia suffers great losses every day, thus confirming the expectations of all analysts and specialists about the shallow and inexperienced decisions and policies of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Saudi people woke up to the Houthi’s statement in which they confirmed targeting Aramco, and causing great losses for it as a result.
This statement opened the file of the Yemen war, which everyone warned MBS about, but he insisted and involved the KSA in an ongoing war until today.
Christian Weissflug, a correspondent specialized in Middle East affairs, wrote about bin Salman making enemies for KSA in recent years, which resulted in its decline in ranking as an important player regionally and internationally. Christian made the following points:
The murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi exposed Saudi Arabia’s record of assassinations, intimidating opponents, and fighting freedom of expression and speech at home and abroad.
The exclusion of all those who could have been competitors to MBS from the political and social work arena, where Christian reported that MBS arrested 20 princes of the ruling family for the first time in its history, in addition to arresting thousands of scientists, journalists, politicians, and social figures, as well as dozens of leaders and officials from the army and the Ministry Interior, who were loyal to Ibn Nayef, who was overthrown by MBS and placed under house arrest, as well as Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, the younger brother of MBS, on charges of communicating with external parties and foreign countries to plan a coup against the regime, and at the head of those countries the USA, the country for which MBS paid hundreds of billions of dollars to buy its protection.
Christian said that some of the detained princes might be detained for life, after MBS stripped many of them of their positions, seized their money, placed them under house arrest, and released some of them.
Christian commented on the Saudi economy saying that MBS does not seek to strengthen the economy, as he claims, as much as he tries to apply openness in Saudi Arabia in contravention of its customs, traditions, and morals, as he forced the Religious Police to retreat from their role, and gave way to the entertainment authority, which nobody can criticize, even by posting on social media platforms.
Regarding the Yemen war, Christian stated that this file did not have the support of the kingdom’s princes and officials, but he insisted on entering the war, which still caused the KSA great losses.
Christian also discussed the siege of Qatar, which the United Arab Emirates involved him in and he was born great losses for this unwise decision.
As for the human rights file during the era of bin Salman, Christian said that the crackdown campaign against sheikhs and preachers, whom bin Salman describes as sheikhs of hatred, but rather included all preachers of all currents, women, and girls known for their human rights work in KSA.
As for his rule, Christian predicted that bin Salman will have a painful fall, and inferred that the arrests and turbulent policies are evidence of the fears surrounding him, especially from those loyal to bin Nayef, who enjoys great external and internal support, as well as his other competitor Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz, the one who strongly reject the war on Yemen and he also enjoys national and international support that exceeds that of bin Salman.
